I think that the site could use a "bread crumb" approach. It helps convey "where" you are on the site.

I agree. I think that there should be some sort of reference to tell you exactly where you are. Like Discussions > Web Design. I have already been lost on this site. While not necessary, per say, it would be a little more useful, in case someone accidentally clicked a link and didn't realize it (like me, haha).

I this sites needs the ability to upload pictures, and namely an area devoted to community pictures.

When you sign up as a new user, you should be automatically logged in after hitting "Sign Up". Currently you have to sign up and then click the "Login" link up top. This behaviour is confusing, as you think you are logged in after signing up but you are not.

There should be a captcha on the Sign Up page. Anonymous posting should also require a captcha.
